Breaking News : Christmas Swap Meet 2007

Breaking News

Hi All,

Thanks must go to Ron and Marie Gauci for having us at their place. We were lucky with the weather and all had a good time.
There were some spectacular plants for sale from Phillipe Reyter and Greg Bourke.
The plants in the competition were exceptional and a few were the envy of all.
Greg will have the names of the winners but I can tell you the Grand Champion was won by Alexander Yussof with a mound of Cephalotus that just made us drool.
The prize for the free years subscription was won by Jessica Biddlecombe. The same conditions will be run again next year. Bring a plant to the meeting or events and you go into the draw for a free yearly subscription (one ticket each time for those that come to the meeting and three tickets each time for those that can only come to the events).
Ron Gauci had a large pot of D. capensis which was much admired and most of his Nepenthes were in small half pots attached to the wall growing up a trellis. Inovative and spectacular idea.
Thanks to all that came and again thanks to Ron and Marie Gauci for having us.
Merry Christmas and hope to see you all soon.
Jessica

Breaking News : Mt. Tomah Botanical Gardens
Posted by jessica on 2006/2/28 8:45:41 (2260 reads)

Hi All,
The Society had what is now an annual sale/display at Mt. Tomah. What a show!!!!! I had rang Peter to hock the house so I could buy all the plants that were for sale. They were real beauties. Thanks to Greg Bourke, Margaret Frey, Gordon Hanna, Richard Sullivan, Phillipe Reyter, Helmet Kibellis, their plants were to die for.
Thanks to Lyn Hanna, Michelle (sorry don't know last name but puts up with Greg), and Peter Frey that gave unstinting hours and hard work. The display signs that Kirstie Wulfe did looked great.
Thanks to Greg Bourke, Richard Sullivan and Robert Pollet for the talks which generated more sales as the people were reved up to buy!!!
Robert had his talk at the point of sale/display area and what a great idea as the people were right beside the plants and they could see what he was talking about (very innovative).
Thank you to all that came along for support (and bought plants) and helped with any questions thrown their way. I had a ball and it was good to see familiar faces that are usually to far away to see regularly.
Photos will be posted by all those that had cameras and if I have left anyone out I apologise.
The staff at Mt. Tomah made us feel like old family and we thank them.

Breaking News : Gardening Australia Silver Award
Posted by kirstie on 2005/8/26 13:50:00 (2326 reads)

The Australasian Carnivorous Plant Society display at the Gardening Australia Festival has won a Silver Award. This is a great achievement as it is the first year the Society has done a display at the Festival.

The ABC Gardening Australia Festival continues over the next three days, Friday 26 August 25005, Saturday 27 August 2005 and Sunday 28 August 2005 at the Sydney Showground Olympic Park, so it is not too late to come down and see our prize winning display.

The fesstival also has a great array of plants and plant related products, from interesting foods and garden tools to plant books and greenhouses.

The festival also has a number of stages with speakers on a wide variety of topics. In the Plant Pavillion (also known as the Bagery Pavillion)on the "Grow it Stage" the Society is presenting three talks each day, at 11.45am on Cultivating Carnivorous Plants, 2.10pm on Propagating Carnivorous Plants and at 3.45pm on Native Carnivorous Plants.
So come down and say hello.
