I have a general Question about Peat Moss.
I went to my local shop in Sydney to buy some peat moss and found the brand I used (from Russia) many years ago is not sold any more.

My Question is what type of Peat Moss is currently in use?
Research shows that mining peat is Controversial.

Is Cocopeat (Galuku Coir) good for sundews and pitcher plants? Wiki about peat

I found the shop selling "Killarney Peat" , but it looked a little rich (in nutrients) to me.

What do you use?

Unfortunately for sundews nothing compares to sphagnum peat or straight sphagnum which is unsustainable (generally). Coir peat can be used but soak and drain a few times first. Coir is great for Nepenthes. I use the chips straight or the fines with pearlite.

Cheers
Greg

Hi,
Over many years, I have used a range of different varieties of peat moss; including Killarney peat moss, German and Lithuanian peat moss. The German peat is excellent for Sarracenias, whereas sundews loved the Lithuanian brand.

However, in more recent years, I have been using TEEM peat moss from Canada. This brand is still available today and I have found a larger range of plants grow very well in this peat. I have been using this as pure peat moss for growing my plants.

I hope this helps,
Steve.
